General Manager Ward Shaw celebrated the new Roll In & Out Checkout – Free Experience at Ameristar Casino with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Joining Ward were members of his executive staff, City of St. Charles Mayor Dan Borgmeyer and Scott Tate, President / CEO of the St. Charles Regional Chamber, Board Members and Ambassadors.

The Roll In & Out Checkout – Free Experience is located on the mail promenade, as you head toward the Casino entrance, across from the King Cat Club. Featuring Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology, the convenience store is decked out with cameras and sensors which hang from the ceiling and offers two ways of entering the store – by scanning your credit card or setting up an Amazon One account and scanning your palm. “You can connect your credit card to a palm print so if you come back in the future, you just scan your palm, walk in, grab what you want and leave,” Shaw said.

What the Amazon technology does is it kind of tracks your blob through the store. You can take things off the shelf, put them back,” Shaw said. “I’ve tested myself by doing a couple of things at once and putting them back, then just walking out with a Twix bar and that’s exactly what I got charged for when I walked out.”

The store has been very popular with those late-night Casino visitors, who are playing after the restaurant and bars shut down after 11 pm. It’s a great place to pop in and grab an energy drink, bag of chips or even a sweatshirt if you feel a chill coming on.
