The EDC is pleased to announce the selection of Garner Economics to spearhead the creation of a first-of-its-kind, five-year Strategic Economic Development Resiliency Plan for St. Charles County.

This plan will guide St. Charles County in key areas such as target business sectors, entrepreneurial services, support for underserved populations, workforce issues, and preparedness for extreme weather and natural disasters. Once implemented, it will shape the EDC's cooperative efforts with its stakeholders for the next five years.

“We look forward to partnering with Garner Economics on this plan that will help guide St. Charles County into the next decade of growth," said EDC Board of Directors President Dan Fitter. "The process will include engaging and learning from our region’s stakeholders with a commitment to identifying sectors with sustainable and meaningful growth opportunities."

Atlanta-based Garner Economics is a leading economic development and site location consulting firm with a track record of crafting strategic plans that drive growth and resilience. Over the past 20 years, Garner has partnered with nearly 200 communities and regions to build customized economic development plans and targeted industry strategies. The company is led by Jay Garner, a founding member and past president of the Site Selectors Guild, who has over 40 years of site selection and economic development experience.

Regarding the firm's selection, Jay Garner remarked, "St. Charles County is the shining star of counties in Missouri. But, community leadership also recognizes that resting on your laurels creates complacency, which ultimately leads to mediocrity. We are thrilled to work with the EDC and community leaders to help them continue on a path of success and support them as they write their next chapter.”

"We are eager to work with Garner Economics and engage with our community stakeholders on this groundbreaking initiative," said EDC President & CEO Scott J. Drachnik. "All of us working together will create a new road map for smart growth and economic preparedness in St. Charles County.”

A U.S. Economic Development Administration grant is funding the plan, along with matching funds from the EDC. Project kick-off is in June, with results presented to the EDC's Board of Directors in December.
